There are three different types of objects, objects that transmit light, and objects that reflect or absorb light, and objects that make their own light.
Objects that transmit light are either transparent or translucent. Transparent mean completely see through and can see clearly, while translucent means can see through but image is distorted. Examples of transparent objects are windows. Example of translucent object is bathroom windows with their blurred glass.
Objects that reflect or absorb light, are generally opaque objects, which means that they are not see through. Opaque objects will absorb all light and will reflect the light of the colour of the object. If a pencil case is red, all light that is hitting the pencil case will be absorbed while red will be reflected. If it is a black object than all light hitting the object is absorbed and no light will be reflected. Objects like mirrors reflect light nicely.
Objects that make their own light are called luminous sources. They make their own light source. A natural example of a luminous source is the sun. Other examples are computer screens, light bulbs, and more things that make their own light.
